If you’re in the mood for some hot, fresh Naan Bread but just don’t have the time or motivation to make it the long way, you will love this recipe.
Naan is one of the most famous of Indian breads. It is eaten with pretty much everything. Naan with curry. Naan pizzas. Naan sandwich wraps. It is essentially one the of the most versatile breads. It can be stuffed with onions, paneer, ground meat and a variety of other ingredients. Simply – it’s just plain delicious!
Quick Naan uses only 2 ingredients and bypasses the need for yeast. It’s just as good as the regular naan recipes, but a fraction of the ingredients and prep time! Essentially – it’s a win! You make homemade naan. You make your family/guest happy. Less prep means less dishes (I hope!), and everyone is running through grassy hills in the beautiful sunshine singing and laughing. The End! Haha! (okay – maybe not that dramatic of an ending, but you will end up with some happy eaters at your table and a great Naan recipe you can use anytime!)
- For Dough:
- 2 cups self-rising flour + 1 cup extra (as needed for dough prep and rolling out naan)
- 1 cup of whole milk plain yogurt OR 1.5 cup Greek yogurt
- Garlic Butter:
- 1 stick melted butter
- 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp. finely chopped cilantro or parsley
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl or standalone mixer, add 2 cups flour, yogurt (plain or Greek).
- In mixer or by hand, bind the dough together till it is semi-soft. Use the extra flour 1 Tbsp. at a time to firm up the dough till it is not sticky at all. You want it to be like a “soft playdoh” consistency – not firm but not too soft.
- Cover and set aside for 10 minutes.
- Heat flat pan on medium- high heat.
- After time, take the dough and divide into 8 small tennis ball portions and roll in your hand till it is into a smooth ball.
- Take 1 round and roll out on a floured surface till it is 8inch diameter. Flour as needed to avoid it sticking to surface.
- Take the round naan and stretch out by hand a bit till it is a long oval shape.
- Place directly on hot pan and allow to cook for 2 minutes or till you see bubbles form.
- Flip naan and allow to cook for another 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat onto a plate and brush with the garlic butter blend.
- Repeat steps 6 to 8 with remaining dough rounds.
- Serve hot with any curry or use as a sandwich wrap.
1. Place rolled naan on hot pan till bubbles form 2. Flip naan and cook for another few minutes. 3. Naan will have golden brown bubbles on one side 4. Brush naan with melted butter or garlic butter mix.
And feel free to switch up the type of butter you brush on. Instead of garlic, you can use plain butter with just the coriander. You can add some ground cumin, or dried fenugreek into the butter. The list is endless on how you can flavor your naan. Be creative and enjoy every bite of your hot naan!
