Sometimes, the most simple of foods turns out to be the best of the best! Take French Fries for example. It’s usually from a potato for goodness sakes…bland, looks boring, just a big round blob. BUT – when you fry it up all golden brown, crispy, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside…that potato becomes the most amazing thing ever!!
NOW – add on your sauces, cheeses, chili’s, gravies, whatever you please on top and you’re talking about something on another level!
Today, I want to share with you an amazing recipe for a Masala Ketchup-Sauce that I’ve been having since my childhood and all the way up to today’s lunch! I used to eat Masala Chips all the time when I was in the UK visiting family every summer. I used to wake up early, get ready and wait for my parents to take me to the chip shop in the Indian marketplace and buy them for me! It was served in a simple styrofoam “to-go” container and the chip guy would fry up some fresh cut fries till golden brown and then pour this amazing red masala sauce all over the fries. As a kid , I thought I was the luckiest little girl in the world! AND if I was good – my parents would buy me 2 orders!! Even after all these years, this is my most favorite way to eat fries!
You can use this Masala Sauce on regular fresh or frozen French fries, sweet potato fries or on your own fried creation. BUT – I do want to tell you that if you have the time to make some fresh fries at home, the taste of the Masala Chips will be so much better. Homemade Fries is definitely one of the best in my book of eats! :O)
Well, here’s the recipe folks! I hope you enjoy your Masala Chips as much as I do!
MASALA SAUCE for Chet’s Masala Fries
- 1/2 cup of regular ketchup (Heinz if possible)
- 1 to 2 Tbsp of Sambal Oelek (for heat – add more if desired)
- 2 Tbsp of Sweet Relish (add more if you prefer a chunkier & crunchier sauce )
- 1 Tbsp of Chaat Masala (Badshah or Shan Brand)
- 1 tsp of Thana Jeeru (cumin/coriander powder)
- 1/4 tsp of finely minced garlic or garlic paste
- 1/4 cup of finely grated carrots
- Mix all ingredients together till fully incorporated and then let sit in room temperature for about 10-15mins. This just allows all the ingredients to really mesh together.
- Remix and enjoy
MY TRICK: Then what I do is take my hot fries, toss them in salt & pepper and then put them in a pan with a few spoons of the sauce. Mix it all together gently (don’t mash up your fries) and heat up for a bit. The sauce caramelizes around the fries and it tastes even better!
Now grab an ice cold drink, an awesome sandwich and your masala fries and you’ll be all set!! If you want a partner in crime to eat all this with you – let me know! I’ll be right there! Haha. :O)
If you get a chance to try out my Masala Fries – leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
Enjoy!
