There is a place tucked away behind a few antique stores on Main Street in Mullica Hill, NJ that offers some of the best tasting cupcakes and macarons I’ve had in a long time. This French bakery is called La Mademoiselle Macaron and is only open Thursday to Saturday from 11am-5pm.
If you don’t get there quick, then you will have missed out on some delectable French pastries and great tea selections. Initially, I didn’t know the exact times this bakery was open, so I literally drove by for 2 days (holding up traffic by the way) before I saw the sign out front with their schedule. It’s my sweet tooth that makes me do crazy things! Haha!
When I first walked into this gray farmhouse where this bakery resides, I was a bit skeptical of what it was. Honestly, I was expecting a little stand in the corner of some antique store where little pastries would be sold – almost like a girls scout cookie stand we all see from time to time. But guess what I saw when I walked in….
I saw the inside of a farmhouse transformed into a gorgeous bakery with beautiful antique tables, soft pink cushions, and soft gray armoires filled with little trinkets and pictures. It was filled with cool shabby chic furniture, crystal chandeliers and a very romantic atmosphere. Then in the front was a pretty table filled with rainbow colored macarons, delicious looking cupcakes, almond croissants and other baked goods.
For this visit, I took home a box of macarons in a variety of flavors, and their vanilla almond cupcakes.
The macarons were perfect! They didn’t have any “egg-y” aftertaste, soft, chewy and just incredible folks! The filling was delicious too…creamy, full of great flavor and just enough in each macaron to meet the right “squish-factor” (this is the amount of filling a pastry or cookie may have that squirts out all over the place with the first bite.) :O) So this macaron had enough filling to satisfy your palate without making a mess! You could tell from the first bite that only quality ingredients were used in this French bakery. The flavors we had were vanilla, orange blossom, raspberry, blackberry, pistachio, and strawberry.
The cupcakes were so good and filled with vanilla bean and almond flavor. A really great combination, by the way! They were super moist, smelled great and tasted even better! The icing was loaded with fresh vanilla bean and fresh cream making this cupcake a sin to NOT eat! It was just a simple cupcake that looked so pretty and truly loaded up with flavor. And what I really enjoyed about this cupcake was that it wasn’t too sweet…it was the vanilla bean and almond flavors that shined through each bite and made it hard to resist. I literally ate it 2 minutes!
La Madamoiselle Macaron has a great selection of teas and coffee drinks as well. They have an “Afternoon Tea Menu” available that includes sandwiches, pastries and teas into a set price, almost like a “prix fix” menu. They have Garden seating available if you wanted to have a group come in for a tea party, or any personal event.
If you’re in the area and looking for a cute place to have “tea” or in the mood for a dessert/pastry, I definitely recommend checking out La Madamoiselle Macaron.
I love that this is a small local business serving up some delicious bakery items in an area filled with antique stores and boutiques. It truly has a lot of charm and just feels so cozy and relaxing when you walk through the doors.
