On Thursday July 20, 2017 I had the opportunity to attend the Grand Opening Ceremony of Monsoon in Cherry Hill, NJ. This is the second location of Monsoon – the first is in Mt. Laurel, NJ. The owner of both locations is Rewal (Ray) Thind.
At the event, guests had a chance to enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres like Samosas, chicken tikka, mini lamb and chicken sliders, shrimp skewers, among many other delicious passed items. Complimentary beer and wine were available, as well as mango lassi, watermelon juice, sweet yogurt lassi, and tropical juice.
A buffet lunch and dinner were also provided. The spices and seasonings of each dish were completely on point and Ray made sure the menu had a great selection of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The main dishes included Vegetable Korma, Daal Panchranga, Lamb Curry, Goat Curry, South Indian Shrimp Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Basmati Rice, Tandoori Chicken, Chatpata Bhindi Masala, Shahi Paneer, Methi Mutter Malai, and Butter Naan. I did a sampling of each dish and my favorite by far was the Shrimp Curry and the Vegetable Korma – both had a great balance between sweet and spicey. The shrimp was really tender and the korma veggies were perfectly seasoned. Definitely two dishes I recommend for you to try!
Then after a heavy meal, there were many desserts to choose from. I tried the Gulab Jamun in a vanilla cream sauce, but it wasn’t one of my favorites. The Raas Malai and Indian Bread Pudding were so delicious and creamy. They were not overly sweet, but just right to still satisfy my sweet tooth!
If anyone is looking for an Indian restaurant with a modern, comforting environment, but with food that is authentic – Monsoon is the place for you!
